So I learned something fascinating this week that sort of blew my mind, but I couldn't find a way to work it into my own Twitter, Instagram, and podcast material (yet).
For now, I want to share it with you here.
Did you know that in Norway they do not allow for youth national championships in any sport prior to the age of thirteen? And that they do not allow for youth sports statistics or standings to be published for athletes younger than eleven? Their objective is to keep kids interested and
enrolled in town sports for as long as possible.
Now these two facts alone are relatively uninteresting until I point out the fact that Noway ran away with the most golds AND the total metal count in the most recent winter olympics. More specifically, they collected 37 total medals to the US's 25.
Norway has a population of just a shade under 5.5M, while the US is on the cusp of passing 332M.
The pay-to-play club sports system in our country is stupid (with a few quality exceptions), and it is why my boys are not yet signed up for club programs at a time when well over half of their peers are already participating.
I've told my own boys and hundreds of CSP athletes over the years that if you're good enough, you will be found. It'll be a while before I can stomach $5,000 annually to "improve exposure" for my guys.
Now onto this week's shares...
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future social media content and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of
fitness.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
