Friday Four - Information That Shapes My Business Mind: 7/8/16

Published: Fri, 07/08/16

This week's Friday Four covers the concept of making a fitness center your "third place," the merits of video marketing, and arguably the hardest part of my job - people management.

Let's dig in to the content.

First things first, here's a link to my blogging efforts from this week:

My Friday-FOUR

Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage CSP - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:

  • When Your Gym is Your Office - While my business is not competing directly with commercial gyms, I do like to have a finger on the pulse of this segment of the industry. Any fitness facility trend that the Wall Street Journal deems worthy of coverage is probably worthy of our attention. We work hard at CSP to create an environment that our clients see as their "third place," and it appears that heavy hitters such as Equinox are now focused on doing the same.
  • Why You Need to Start Video Marketing Now - In just over a year of "Technique Tuesday" videos featuring powerlifting tutorials from Tony Bonvechio, we have managed to generate well over 100,000 views. The exposure that these recordings bring to our business (and Tony-B) is immensely valuable. While we at CSP don't need to be convinced to embrace video content, you may still be skeptical. Read this piece to learn about why and how to take the dive in to this digital marketing world.
  • Business For Unicorns TV #3 - Speaking of video marketing...Mark Fisher is back with another "vlog" discussing the systems put in place at MFF to ensure that continuing education and professional development remain a staple in their day-to-day and week-to-week evolution as a business. He also introduces us to a fantastic quote: "The most useful comments are accurate criticisms." How can you not take advice from a man in his closet talking to a camera while wearing a hat that says UNICORN on it?
  • How to Manage a Negative Employee - There are few aspects of my job that prove to be as difficult and time consuming as people management. I am quick to admit that my leadership and management skills have serious room for improvement. I found each of the six tips in this piece to be useful and easy to apply when managing the occasional cranky employee.

Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
