Cressey
Sports Performance hit its 9-year anniversary this week and I couldn't be prouder. This business is obviously the foundation of my credibility, and 99.99% of the reason that any of you care to listen to the things I have to say. Thank you for caring, listening, and just being generally aware of CSP and what we've created.
I've now got 363 days to figure out a celebration that will do a decade of operations justice. Wish me luck.
I'm excited
about the content I've pulled together for you today and think you'll really enjoy it.
First things first, here's a link to my blogging efforts from this week:
- The Call
You Didn't Make That Could Have Saved Your Business Thousands - While my intern alumni list is growing at a steady pace, I can't say the same about calls coming in regarding reference checks on these coaches during the days, weeks, and months to follow. This is my take on why failure to call references during the hiring process is detrimental to both your business, and mine.
My Friday-FOUR
Four pieces
of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage CSP - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- 5 Things to Consider Before You Open More
Locations - I'm not sure I've come across an article I agreed with more than this one in recent months. I especially enjoyed point #2: "never underestimate the power of the secret sauce." The secret sauce is that certain something that can't be passed along in employee manuals or systemization of your business. We're all about the secret sauce at CSP.
- Adrian Peterson's Growing Gym Could Give Him a Viable Post-NFL Career - I'd like to say that AP and his partners should read the first article on this list, but they've
apparently skipped the whole "run a successful business for a while" concept and jumped right to discussions of franchising a gym that opened THIS MARCH. My 2-cents - don't ever open a 35,000 square foot "little bit of everything" gym unless you're an NFL All-Pro who's name alone will draw fanboys in to the facility.
- LinkedIn's Top 3 Secrets to Getting Hired in 2016 - Full disclosure: I do not have a LinkedIn account. I just may be the only Babson MBA graduate from the past 20 years who can make this claim. This being said, I think their platform is immensely valuable, and all three "secrets" in this piece are spot on. I wanted to pick a favorite to point
you toward, but they're all in a tie for first place on my list.
- Gary Varnerchuck Video: Caring About a Customer is a Mindset, Not a Tactic - This is a 3-minute story told by GV that should reposition your mentality as it relates to going above and beyond for customers who may not initially
have the biggest impact on your bottom line. You really never know who is going to hear a story about your good-will gesture at some point down the road and choose to spend with you.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
