This
week's Friday Four has an especially entrepreneurial feel to it. I've pulled together content covering brand development, crafting the skills and work-ethic necessary to run your own operation, and more.
First things first, here's a look at some content published on my own site this week:
- Building Bridges: Leveraging Your Employer to Enhance Your Personal Brand - People seem to be especially fascinated by how and why we allow our employees to create their own personal brands while working under our roof. Our employee Tony Bonvechio has been especially effective in leveraging his affiliation with CSP in an effort to build a
profitable on-line brand while simultaneously managing to be a valuable employee to CSP. Here’s a fantastic guest post he wrote to help those of you who are interested in blurring the line between employee and entrepreneur. As you’ll see, this type of scenario can create a mutually beneficial relationship between you and your employer.
My Friday FOUR
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that
will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage CSP - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- An Entrepreneur Learned the Importance of Making Time to Manage Time - I know, I know...It sounds absurd to set aside time to set aside time, but this article jumped out at me because I already practice this habit. According to the author, "when you become an entrepreneur, the need for your time feels like it grows exponentially." He’s spot-on with this assessment. Have a look at this article and consider how you might be able to become more
efficient by giving your colleagues and employees access to your schedule and the ability to modify it.
- Why You Should Hire People With ‘Slash Careers’ - How many of
you have heard the term “slash career” before now? Those of you who haven’t are probably a little bit more familiar with “side hustle” or something as simple as an “alternative revenue stream.” Whatever you choose to call it, this second job concept is here to stay, and you should probably embrace the idea of hiring people with slash careers. I should also note that fitness instruction is generally assumed to be the add-on to an existing career in this case, but it doesn’t have to be. This piece
explains three great reasons why employees pursuing projects outside of your business can “spill creativity in to your company.”
- Is Criticism Helpful? - There’s no arguing that social media has a massive impact on how we all run our fitness businesses. Whether you own a fitness facility, an on-line brand, or simply aspire to jump in to the fitness industry in the near future, you need to take note of Adam’s message. I can’t sum up effective social media use any better than he does right here: “Promote good.
Inspire change. And share thoughts that people can use.”
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
