It's a big day here at Cressey Sports Performance. Greg Robins will be tying the knot with his lovely fiance Taryn later this afternoon and our whole gang will be in attendance. Keep an eye on various social networking platforms for pictures of me and Eric attempting to dance and of all of the CSP staff dressed in attire other than sweatpants and tee shirts.
I'm
psyched to share some great articles and blog posts this week, along with a guest post I wrote for Tony Gentilcore's site.
Let's start with my material:
- 3 Steps to Fail-Proof Your Gym: My moment of creativity for this blog struck as I was bottle-feeding my infant at 3am a couple of weeks back. For some reason I found myself thinking about Tony's recent success with the launch of his new gym, and realized he did three very important things in advance of declaring CORE as open for business to ensure long-term success. This post discusses the right moves he
made.
My Friday FOUR
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage CSP - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Dear Fitness Industry: Michael Keeler, co-founder of MFF, makes dozens great points in this open letter to the fitness industry. The majority of the marketers in our field seem to forget that roughly nine out of ten typical gym goers aren't concerned with
improving their vertical or their 60-time. Most gym owners would be well served to listen closely to Michael's concerns. He is speaking for the bulk of your potential customers when he says "whenever I see fitness professionals promising crazy ripped abs it tells me instantly that they don’t understand what’s important to me."
- How to Woo Millenials to Your Small Business: According to this article, the collective spending power of the 19-35 year-old community is currently $2.45 trillion. Love 'em or hate
'em, millenials are people you need to walk through the doors of your gym. There are some useful strategies and interesting statistics in this piece. Did you know that 97% of all millenials read online reviews to decide which businesses to frequent?
- 8 Things Successful People Do With Their Downtime: The first two suggestions on this list fall within the CSP scope of practice - 1: Exercise. 2: Have Fun. This is an important reminder that the service we provide and the environment we create both qualify as big pieces of our clients' recipes for success. I should also note that networking is one of the suggested habits on this list, and the training floor of your gym can and should be as good a place as any to build
your network.
- The $100 MBA Podcast: Something tells me the majority of my readers have at least a ten-minute commute each day. Why not make that time a little more productive? I listen to the $100 MBA every day on my ride home from work and it never disappoints. This daily
ten-minute podcast hit the scene in 2014 and promptly earned "Best Of" status on iTunes. With over 700 recordings available, there is no shortage of great business content for your commute.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
