Friday 4 (early edition) - Tips for Naming Your Business, Why Employees Quit, and More: 1/26/17

Published: Thu, 01/26/17

It was an exciting week here at CSP, as we launched our first staff-wide collaborative product. CSP Innovations is an 11-part webinar series featuring presentations created by staff members hailing from both our Massachusetts and Florida facilities. There's a ton of good content in there, so make sure to check it out before the early bird deadline expires this Sunday evening.

Let's start this edition of the Friday-4 with material I've published this week:
  • Believe It Or Not, CSP Isn't A One-Man Show - This post helps you to understand the difference between weak-link and strong-link fitness businesses - one can thrive as a single entity, while the other is considerably better positioned to succeed upon expansion.
My Friday FOUR

Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage CSP - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
  • How Writing An Article A Day Will Change Your Life (and Your Business) - This message doesn't need to be limited to writing proficiency. In our work environment, the same concept could be applied to something as simple as recording a single exercise instruction video a day with the intention of transforming your on-screen presence. Our employee, Tony Bonvechio, has committed himself to creating a tutorial video every Tuesday for close to two years now and the difference in his delivery and approach is astounding when you revisit his first few attempts in relation to current material. Long story short - build some consistency into your skill cultivation efforts.
  • 10 Entrepreneurs Share Fail-Safe Strategies for More Effective Meetings - Meeting time efficiency is of particular importance in a business such as ours where we don't budget a whole lot of down time into our schedule. Since the majority of our discussions of this nature happen during hours when clients are not in the gym, they often take place off-the-clock. With this in mind, I like to be mindful of our team's personal time and ensure that we cover as much ground as possible in a tight window. I intend to use a number of these tips beginning now.
  • The Five Pitfalls of Naming Your Small Business - Outside of our standard "learn from our mistakes and make sure not to put your name on your business" suggestion, there are some really valuable insights in this piece. The overarching theme is that you want to make your business name easily accessible in a google search. Take each of these tips seriously as you hash out the name for your next gym or online fitness business.
  • The No. 1 Reason Employees Quit Is Not What You Think - Employee retention is about so much more than paying enough. This piece does a nice job of illustrating how you can challenge them with unique responsibilities, provide opportunities for continuous learning, and consider involving them in setting their own performance goals.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
