Let's start this edition of my Friday-4 with any and all content I've been associated with this
week: - Know Your Numbers, But Don't Overcomplicate Things - I couldn't tell you how many non-training
dollars we extract from each client that walks through the door. I don't have customer lifetime value built into a formula in a spreadsheet. And I'm pretty sure the last time I typed the words "cohort analysis" it was for a paper during grad school. I'm a big believer in tracking your metrics, but also know that you don't need to go overboard with your calculations to qualify as a business owner who knows his or her numbers. I just slightly scratch the surface on key performance indicators
in this week's brief blog post.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness.
Enjoy: - The 1 Thing You Can Do In a Face Book Group To Grow Your Business - I enjoyed this piece because it echoed many of
the complaints I've had regarding the more populated fitness industry "mastermind" groups I've been a part of. The moment people begin pitching unsolicited services, you've officially lost me. If you manage a group page of your own, I strongly encourage you to take these tips to heart.
- What Your Business Needs to Know About Copyright Law - I have yet to meet a gym owner who identifies as a specialist in intellectual property law, yet most of us are hard at work creating content that will theoretically drive
leads to our business. This piece does a nice job of introducing the framework of copyright law in layman's terms for people like myself. What is copyright law? What, exactly, does it cover? Do I need to file for copyright to have to be protected? It's all covered here.
- 5 Proven Ways to Get More
Customer Reviews On Google and Facebook - I must admit, I need to make more of an effort to solicit customer reviews in an online format to increase my "reputation management efforts." I've been consistent with publishing on Thursdays and sending this newsletter on Friday mornings...why not add one more recurring theme to the mix? Keep an eye on the CSP Instagram (@CresseySportsPerformance) for what I'll unofficially call "Social Proof
Saturday's."
- There's a New NYC Law That Eliminates Your Least Favorite Interview Question - Beginning in November it will be illegal to ask for previous compensation information
from job applicants in New York City, and business owners on Wall Street are PISSED. The rule is meant to be a step in the direction of ending pay discrimination. We hire exclusively through our internship program here at CSP, meaning that all of our hires start at roughly the same compensation point, so a rule of this nature would have little effect on our business. This being said, it would probably make things a little more complicated if we were in the business of enticing strength coaches
from other fitness facilities to join our team.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
