I turn 36 today. This birthday happens to sync up with week one of a new training program, so I rolled
out of bed feeling closer to 56 thanks to yesterday's squats. I wish I had something insightful to say about the art of growing older gracefully. I don't.
Let's start this week's Friday-4 with a blog I published on my own site: - What's The Worst They Could Say? - In this blog post I discuss the importance of anticipating push-back during your selling process, and how you can get ahead of it to pitch your services more effectively.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed
this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy: - The Musclebound Baby - I've said in the past that I love Seth Godin's brevity in blogging, but I should also note that I am a fan of his strategic use of thoughtful wording in his blog titles. You'll have a hard time guessing which direction he's going with this one based on the title, but it will make perfect sense once you consume the material. Beyond the creative title, the single message in this piece is
important as you consider tackling new and difficult learning objectives.
- Scaling Customer Service As Your Startup Grows - According to this piece, there are effectively five stages of
growth as it relates to customer service. I'd imagine that 99% of my audience falls within the first two categories (Founding Stage & Early Stage). The description of each of these first two stages perfectly describes the CSP approach to managing customer service to date. Read the first 40% of this article closely if you're a new gym owner. Making the remaining 60% of this post relevant to your organization in the coming years can be a "big hairy audacious goal."
- Instagram's 'Girl With No Job' Actually Works 24/7 to Build Her Brand - So you've got your mind set on being an Instagram influencer...I hope you realize it takes more than creativity. It takes a willingness to be attached to your phone during 100% of your waking hours. According to the influencer interviewed in this piece, the relevant lifespan of a piece of viral content is roughly 6-hours. If you want to stay relevant in this space, you need to be constantly active, requiring 7-day/week posting habits. Is a big following worth
this invasion of your personal time?
- Apple's Outrageous iPhone 8 Price Could Be the Beginning of the End - I found this to be an interesting read on pricing strategy. The soon to be released iPhone 8 is expected to launch with a price tag of $999. Can Apple continue increasing their pricing structure without restraint and avoid any hint of price elasticity? The charts provided in this piece make a compelling argument that they might be in trouble.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
