- Skills Capture a Niche - Relationships Help You Retain It - "What makes your business different?" People typically expect my response to center exclusively
around training philosophy or programming strategy. Instead, I throw them a curveball -- it's all about relationships. This week's post elaborates on the importance of differentiating by leveraging your network.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future
blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Never Check Email Before Noon - James
Clear has published a number of great pieces on boosting productivity, and this one in particular stands out to me because I am guilty of creating constant "mental drag" for myself. Clear does a great job of illustrating how distracting your email account can be first thing in the morning if you have a to-do list that requires creative work.
- When Someone Quits, You're Too Late - 3 Questions to Ask Every Week - Here at CSP, the type of in-depth weekly one-on-one meeting outlined in this post would be difficult to pull off, but I can absolutely get behind the idea of a monthly or quarterly conversation. I especially like this
piece because it doesn't try to over complicate the process of staying on the same page as your employees. Question number three is especially helpful if you have a policy that team members are welcome to build and manage their own personal brands.
- Sham Surgery - Seth Godin opened my eyes to the power of suggestion in this blog post. The power of placebos is a real factor in coaching. Keep this in mind as you help your clients to understand and anticipate the great value in working with your fitness business.
- What Makes Me a Great CEO - I wish Gary-V used a different title for this piece because the people who have come to the conclusion that they don't love his material are even less likely to give this one a shot. Had he gone with something along the lines of: "Embracing Technology & Positivity is the Future of
Leadership," he may have garnered a few more clicks. I agree with Gary on all of these points, including the importance of understanding that you can't control the direction of the marketplace. Adjust, or become irrelevant. Bitching about technological change isn't going to solve your problems.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
