Let's start this week's Friday-4 with a blog I've published on my own
site: - The Dangers of Aligning Your Gym With a Specific Team or Program - It seems that every time I speak to a fellow gym owner who caters to baseball
players, I learn that he is kicking around the idea of jumping on an opportunity to open a location in the indoor training facility of a nearby club baseball program. My best advice: Proceed with caution.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as
always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy: - Science of Social Media: Episode 63 (podcast) - It appears that the era of driving tons of traffic via your social media profiles has come to
an end thanks to the constantly changing algorithms. The crew at Buffer makes a compelling case for focusing purely on brand-building through engagement on your social platforms moving forward. I can't seem to find a direct web link to this podcast outside of sending you to itunes, so just scroll until you see Episode 63 and you'll be all set.
- 'How Should I Answer: What is Your Greatest Weakness?' There's Really Only One Way - With internship
candidates alone, I execute roughly 50 job interviews annually. I wont pretend to be good at it, but I'm getting better. I have historically avoided questions that I deemed "cliche," but this article opened my eyes to the insight that can be taken away from the response to "what is your greatest weakness" in an interview setting. Additionally, it will help you to revise your approach to this tough question if you're sitting on the aspiring candidate side of the table.
- 1,000 True Fans - I stumbled upon this post thanks to the show notes in a recent Tim Ferris podcast. While the material is not new, the message will stand the test of time. As Tim says during the recording, your best bet is to "cultivate the intense few, instead of the
luke-warm many," and this article will help you understand how to quantify what your optimal number of "true fans" is to create viable earning potential.
- 11 Ways You Can Use the
Holiday Slump to Update Your Digital Presence - If your gym is anything like mine, there is no "holiday slump." In fact, we'll likely push as much as 15% of our revenues for the year during the month of December alone thanks to the timing of the baseball off-season and college holiday breaks. This being said, many of the tips in the post are important regardless of your current level of foot traffic. I am particularly fond of tips 3, 5, 7, 9 and 10. Enjoy!
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
