I've spent the past week in sunny Florida enjoying a vacation with family. This is just the reenergizing
environment I'll need to return to kick ass and take names at our 6th annual CSP Fall Seminar which is set to take place this Sunday. Can't wait to connect with some old friends and meet some new ones in this 170+ person audience.
Let's start this week's Friday-4 with a pair of guest posts I published on my own site:
- My Time in a Commercial Gym Influences the Way I Run My Facility Today - Most of the best gyms I can think of happen to be run by people who previously killed it personal training in a commercial gym setting. Mike Connelley just so happens to be one of those guys, and today he's prepared a great guest post discussing the many ways he is applying lessons
learned in a big box gym as he runs a profitable gym of his own.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some
business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- 4 Ways to Make Your Painfully Long Emails Shorter - With each passing year, I find myself pitching our services more via email than in the past. People seem to be abandoning your traditional telephone inquiry in favor of electronic correspondence. This article highlights some great tips that will dramatically increase the likelihood that your responses get read in their entirety.
- Look Around - You don't HAVE TO create informational exercise videos and elaborate blog posts to operate a profitable gym. Maybe you should take Seth Godin's advice and focus on appealing (in any way possible) to the potential clients on your block instead of wasting energy trying to impress our industry as a whole via
the internet...
- Why Casper is Planning to Attack Holiday Sales by Doing Nothing at All - Take a page out of the mattress company Casper's
playbook and fight the urge to target value creation as a function of discounting. If you can prioritize long-term pricing stability over short-term cash flow bumps you will not have clients patiently waiting for a holiday weekend sale to spend money with you.
- In a Distracted World, Solitude is a Competitive Advantage - I've never found a business article that began with a Star Wars quote that I didn't
enjoy. There were some interesting statistics in this post, such as the fact that your IQ drops between 5-15 points every time you begin multitasking. There are some great pointers in here for those of us who are looking to cut back on a little bit of the daily noise distracting us from being productive.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great
weekend!
