Let's start this week's Friday Four off with a guest blog from my Todd Bumgardner published on
my own site: - Community, Saying Yes, and Business Success - I've officially been "the business guy" for Strength Faction for a full year now, and it has been a pleasure
thus far. I've signed on to contribute for another season as we kick off 2018, primarily because I believe in the whole community-building endeavor that these guys have taken on. This week I have a guest post from the SF leader, Todd. This will give you a feel for the power of this killer professional network I've been fortunate enough to align myself with.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've
consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy: - Buying Attention: Hidden Brain Podcast - This podcast takes you through the origins of efforts to harvest our attention, looking as far back as the first advertising-driven newspaper in New York. Give this one a
listen if you find that you're having a difficult time maintaining focus every time you sit down to do some work, only to find yourself buried in the social media newsfeed minutes or even hours later.
- 7 Ways to Use a Day Planner to Be a Better Entrepreneur - I do the bulk of my day-to-day planning in Evernote, but sometimes I get a little too comfortable kicking an annoying task on my to-do list down to the next day's objectives. When this happens more than once, I find that the best solution is to hand-write it in my planner.
Actually grabbing a pencil and recording the responsibility is a harsher reminder that it needs to get done than hitting cut and paste on my computer screen. I need all of the tips and tricks I can find to stay on task these days, and this article was useful for me.
- Sen. Thom Tillis on Why He Expects His Staffers to Apply for Other Jobs - This senator expects roughly a 25% attrition rate amongst his staff due to the fact that many
of these professionals are fresh out of school and often thinking about "the next thing." Instead of combatting this scenario, he embraces it and asks that his team apply for at least one other job each year, and bring him into the discussion. This is relevant to me because I employ a handful of very young (early 20's) coaches who will naturally ask themselves what's next from time to time. It's always nice to hear how people outside of our industry think of these issues. Special thanks to
Friday-4 reader Deana for sending this one my way!
- How to Define Your Company's Values and Make Them Stick - I've never come across a fitness business that is more in-tune with their core values than the guys at Mark Fisher Fitness. MFF co-founder, Michael Keeler, takes you inside his massive brain on this topic in this great piece. If you want to run the best fitness facility
in your area, it's time for you to begin emulating one of the best in the world. Listen to this man.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
