I've got some good reading suggestions for you this week. If you're interested in discussions on
branding strategy, people management, or the ever-changing Facebook algorithm, you're in luck.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world
of fitness. Enjoy: - Why Chobani Is Reinventing Itself - and Why It Had No Choice - We function in an industry full of copycat fitness service
providers. It seems that new gyms are opening around the corner just about every month, forcing us all to reconsider our strategies for differentiating our business in a watered down segment. The well-known Greek yogurt manufacturer, Chobani, has been faced with the same dilemma since fueling the surge in popularity of this product beginning back in 2007. Their most recent bold solution is a company-wide rebrand. This Ad Week article does a great job of illustrating exactly why this move is both
risky, and necessary.
- If Your Spouse's Work Life Is Stressful, Design a Healthier Home Life - My wife and I both have the occasional periods of stress in the workplace. Hers are typically a function of quarterly goals in a sales role, and mine are aligned with the highs and lows of a baseball calendar. The good news for us is that our stressful periods rarely overlap, allowing us to serve as each other's support system when times are tough. There are some valuable rules to live by on this front in this Harvard Business Review piece.
- You're Not a Regular Boss, You're a 'Cool' Boss -- Would Your Employees Agree? - This article isn't actually about trying to be a "cool boss." Instead, it has some great tips on being an effective boss. The older I get, the
further I am from having a shot at being perceived as "cool" by my employees. And that's fine. They don't need me to be cool. They need me to create an environment that they are inspired to work in.
- Facebook is Making a Major Change to the News Feed - I'm not a Facebook marketing guru, and don't ever intend to be one. This being said, I'd imagine this is either going to be a really good thing for you and your business, or a really bad one. My
best piece of advice is to maintain consistency and quality in your content creation efforts, and you should be just fine. For those of you who don't use Facebook for business-building endeavors, your feed is about to become a lot cleaner!
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
-
Pete
