Friday 4 - Surviving "the busy season," Dealing with Copycats, & More 12/22/17

Published: Fri, 12/22/17

Happy holidays, everyone. Let's kick off your upcoming long weekend with a little bit of business content that may help you as you brainstorm your 2018 objectives.

My Friday FOUR:

Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
  • 5 Ways to Focus Your Energy During a Work Crunch - For the duration of the month of December, I am struggling to survive a work crunch. We will be without an office manager until December 29th, meaning that I am now both our Business Director, and the person who greets 100% of the clients who walk through the door. I am admittedly struggling to keep my head above water as I juggle what is typically two full-time positions, so this HBR piece made it on to my radar at just the right time.
  • How I Stopped Hustling and Started Succeeding - Every once in a while I get to share an article "from the world of business" that was intelligently written by a fellow fitness professional. I was proud to see my buddy Jon Goodman's name pop up on Entrepreneur.com during my weekly Friday 4 search, and this article did not disappoint.
  • How Your Business Can Survive in a Copycat World - Have you ever had a competing fitness business come to town that essentially offers the exact same services you are currently providing? It probably stung a little bit, and you were left looking for solutions to counter the problem. This article shares seven great ways for manufacturers to counter copycats without going the litigation route, and some translate nicely to your fitness service scenario.
  • Business Advice for Trainers From Trainers - I pulled this article from Tony Gentilcore's site, so it obviously doesn't qualify as business insights from outside of the world of fitness. This being said, I think it brings a great deal of fitness business value, and also includes a series of really good book recommendations from the fitness professionals who were interviewed.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, happy holidays to all.
