Here's some recommended reading to either wrap up your
week, or kick off your weekend.
Let's kick things off with a new blog from my site, and some CSP-related seminar updates:
- So You're Considering Putting Your Name on
Your Business... - If there is one question I find myself answering more than others, it would be whether or not I would go back in time to change the name of my business if I could. Here's a close look at the pros and cons that came with using Eric Cressey's last name in our branding strategy.
- 7th Annual CSP Fall Seminar - Join us for this great annual event on Sunday, October 14. Eric and I have selfishly arranged for Pat Rigsby to join us as a key note guest speaker because we're psyched to
learn from him, and I'm sure the audience will find his material to be immensely valuable.
- CSP Business Building Mentorship - This will be the second time Eric and I have offered this business mentorship at CSP. The first edition sold out, so make sure to grab a spot quickly if you're interested. * Also - we're going to offer free admission to the fall seminar for anyone who signs up for this mentorship, so you can think of the Sunday presentations as a complimentary appetizer.
My
Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy: - What Not to Do When You're Trying to Motivate Your Team - This Harvard Business Review article did more than just tell you what not to do when it comes to motivating employees. They took things a step further, and explained how to revise the
most common faulty approaches to delivering complimentary feedback in a workplace setting.
- 8 Ways You're Destroying Your Personal Brand Without Even Knowing It - Plenty of good information here, most of which emphasizes the importance of consistency in tone, style, and delivery. I've been delinquent in publishing my own blog content consistently as of late, and it has surely taken its toll on my personal brand. The good news is that these weeks of blogging silence have been the result of a busy gym here at CSP.
- Don't Be So Quick to Dismiss Service Jobs - Here's an interesting fact from this piece: More than 90% of the 11.5 million expected new jobs to be created by 2026 will be in
service-providing industries. This author made a great case for embracing "stepping stone" entry level service jobs as a necessary stop along the way to greater things. As I read, all I could think of was the parallel to the dreaded first job training in a commercial gym, and the abundance of lessons to be learned in that setting. Two things will not change in the near future: A demand for service jobs in the fitness industry, and the need to pay your dues early in your
career.
- Equinox & SoulCycle are Launching a Talent Agency for Fitness Influencers - This one should get a number of my readers fired up with disgust heading into the weekend. I know what we need more of..."fitness professionals" aggressively pursuing the biggest "gram" following they can get their hands on when they could be accumulating the experience necessary to create valuable instructional content.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great
weekend!
- Pete
