I'm back with some recommended reading to either wrap up your
week, or kick off your weekend. Enjoy.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy: - Employees Who Use Social Media for Work Are More Engaged - but Also More Likely to Leave Their Jobs - If you own a gym and have
employees, this applies to you. I don't know a single fitness professional who doesn't maintain at least a little bit of a web presence. This piece gives you a look at both the good and the bad that comes with this reality. There are some useful tips that will help you to make sure your employees feel valued using the same social media platforms that they are operating on.
- Science: A Team That Laughs Together, Innovates Together - For the last six months, we
(the CSP team) have been meeting up off-site for a weekly "Breakfast Club." On Thursday mornings we hit the local IHOP and laugh over plates of pancakes. There are two firm rules at Breakfast Club: no discussing fitness, and cell phones get stacked in a pile at the middle of the table until we finish. Since putting this tradition in play, I've seen our gym culture dramatically improve, the staff has unified in a way that I've not seen before, and the company bottom line has
improved as a result. If you're managing or building a team, laughing together should be at the top of your ongoing to-do list.
- Derek Jeter's Storytelling
Revolution - This is a great piece explaining how and why Derek Jeter went about disrupting the traditional media model when he decided to start The Player's Tribune. In just four years, he's taken an idea that came to him while reading Andre Agassi's memoir and turned it into a viable business with $58M in backing.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More
importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
