Happy belated Thanksgiving!
This abbreviated work week allowed me a little extra time for reading, so I've got some good stuff to share. Here's some recommended material to either wrap up your week, or kick off your weekend.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- 5 Science-Backed Networking Tips That Actually Work - This article popped up on my Twitter feed this past week courtesy of my buddy Sol Orwell. I paid attention because Sol is, in my mind, the best "networker" in my entire network. The article is a couple of years old, but the information has aged
well.
- The World's Worst Boss - This is my favorite blog shared so far this year, and it was written nearly a decade ago. The message is as true today as it was the day it hit the internet. We all likely need to be a little better at self-discipline, regardless of whether we work for ourselves, or for someone
else.
- Don't Let Lazy Managers Drive Away Your Top Performers - Managing people is by far the most difficult part of my job. You'd be hard pressed to find a gym owner who claims to have opened up shop with a long-term goal of giving upwards of 50% of their work week to HR-related issues, but that is often
where many of us end up as the business scales. This article from the Harvard Business Review hammers home the point that effective management often starts with taking a hard look in the mirror before putting the blame for performance and/or retention issues solely on the employee.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
