Here's some recommended reading to either wrap up your week, or kick off your weekend.
Let's kick things off with a blog I published this week on my own website, and a look at an upcoming event I'll be hosting with my business partner, Eric Cressey:
- Facts Are Forgotten, But Stories Stick - So two of my favorite reads in 2018 we’re Building a Story Brand and The Best Story Wins. As a result, I’m on a little bit of a storytelling kick, and decided to illustrate how a gym owner could apply the lessons from these books in their own marketing or social media
strategy
- CSP Business Building Mentorship - Eric and I are excited to host our third installment of our CSP Business Building Mentorship, this time taking place in our Florida facility on Sunday, April 7th. If you're interested in learning the in's and out's of exactly how we built our business, and continue to operate it to this day, I think this
may be for you. Please do not hesitate to shoot me an email if you've got specific questions about what the day would entail.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- How Do Employees Truly Feel About Their Bosses? Research Reveals What Nobody Wants to Admit - You'll be disappointed if you click on this one expecting to be told everyone hates their boss. Instead, you'll get some useful suggestions as to how you can build a
human-centered operation as opposed to a profit-centered one. In the end, if you create the former, profits will follow. I especially liked the portion of this piece discussing the importance of designing roles around the natural talents of the employee, as opposed to forcing someone into a predefined job.
- Rebranding Your Company: Why And How To Do It - Gym ownership can change hands frequently in our industry, and each time a business is acquired, there is probably at least a little thought put into a full-scale rebranding effort. With WeWork announcing a rebrand to WeCompany earlier
this month, the discussions relating to the mechanics of a move of this nature are currently trendy. There are some good rules of thumb for businesses considering this move in this Forbes article.
- 15 Free Online Business Courses You Can Take From Harvard, Yale, MIT & Other Amazing Schools - Gone are the days of being able to complain that you don't understand basic accounting, small business marketing, or even business plan design. There is apparently an entirely FREE course for each, along with a variety of other fascinating options
from the most recognizable universities in the country. Your only excuse for being illiterate on any of these topics is now that you couldn't find time.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
