Here's some recommended reading to either wrap up your week, or kick off your weekend.
Let's kick things off with a blog I published this week on my own website:
- Gym Owner Musings - Installment #12 - This month's installment of musings touches on the mandatory evolution that takes place if you want to transition from being a coach to being a successful gym owner, thoughts on customer service, and a little bit on social
media.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- The Hottest Branding Trend of the Year is Also the Worst - I don't agree with the entirety of this article, but I like that it points out an obvious lack of creativity evolving in the world of logo design. I don't share the mentality that only businesses with established
reputations should be allowed to use fonts and color strategies similar to the tech giants of the world. However, I can't help but nod my head in agreement that many young companies are simplifying their branding strategies so dramatically that, upon first impression, it is nearly impossible to know if there is anything of substance behind the logo.
- Fast Growth is Overrated - James Clear has churned out so much information on his website that I almost don't know where to start whenever I venture there for information, but time and time again I find myself re-reading this one. This piece will remind you how important it is to get your reps in in fitness, business, and many other
facets of life.
- How Timeboxing Works and Why It Will Make You More Productive - According to this author, the traditional to-do list approach to productivity is extremely flawed, and I fall victim to each and every reason he outlines in the introduction to this persuasive case for a new approach called
timeboxing. Full disclosure - I have not yet tried this approach, but intend to do so beginning now.
- What Baby Boomers Can Learn From Millenials at Work - and Vice Versa - I can't tell you how refreshing it is to stumble upon an explanation of exactly how multiple generations can function as a cohesive unit in the work place. From the argument for utilizing
a diverse work force in terms of age, to the reminder that wisdom can compliment disruption, I loved every minute of this TED Talk.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
