Here's some recommended reading to either wrap up your week, or kick off your weekend.
Let's start things off with a blog I published this week on my own website:
- Gym Owner Musings - Installment #13 - These are my favorite blogs to write, as they allow for meandering thought and variability in concepts from one point to the next. This time around, I hit on retention strategy, networking skills, and proper structuring of an initial new client
assessment.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Want to Lead Extraordinary Employees? Science Says Praise Them Like This - This article did a nice job of introducing the difference between having a growth mindset, or a fixed mindset, and how one of the two is considerably more
valuable to you as a manager of employees. If you're interested in taking a much deeper dive into the concepts, make sure to pick up a copy of Carol Dweck's book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.
- As Your Team Gets Bigger, Your Leadership Style Has to Adapt - Without a doubt, the biggest challenge I've faced as my business has grown since 2007 has been managing the expanding leadership responsibilities. I didn't initially get into this business to be a leader of people, as the
growth we've seen has far exceeded our initial expectations. Since that time, I've had to learn a number of the lessons outlined in this great HBR piece.
- "I Don't Like Your Work" - This quick blog from Seth Godin is must-read stuff for people who either hesitate to hit the publish button every time they prepare new content, or for those of you who are avoiding creating all together because you're concerned with people disagreeing with your message.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
