Here's some recommended reading to either wrap up your week, or kick off your weekend.
Let's start things off with a blog I published this week on my own website:
- Eyes Forward, Gym Owners - Rarely does a week pass where I fail to identify another parallel between sound parenting and responsible gym ownership. This week was no different, featuring a lesson I share again and again with my son Collin, which has parallels to how I think about running CSP.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- How Generational Stereotypes Hold Us Back at Work (TED Talk) - There's plenty of talk surrounding the many generations in the workplace these days, mostly focusing on the perceived short-comings of millenials. This TED Talk does a fantastic job of
illustrating how the categorization system for these generations is questionable at best, and goes on to present a practical mindset that should be employed as we pursue a harmonious work environment.
- Everything You Need to Know About Business Partnerships - The idea of running a gym solo is exhausting to me, but I also know that I unintentionally stumbled into a fortunate business partner scenario upon starting my business. If you're currently entertaining the idea of taking on a
partner, this is a comprehensive checklist to follow.
- This Company's Secret to Tripling Profits? No Work Wednesdays - The idea of taking exercise away from our clients on a weekday is questionable at best, but this article did get my mind going on a search for ways to improve quality of life for employees while also
increasing productivity. If and when I come up with the gym owner's equivalent to Wednesdays off to improve productivity, you can be damn sure it will show up in a blog post on my own site.
- Burnout and the Brain - I've yet to meet a gym owner who hasn't at least tiptoed the line of burnout during the first couple of years of business. Friday 4 reader, Todd Nief, was kind enough to put this one on my radar and smartly pointed out that there are parallels to the training of elite athletes in
this post as well.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend!
- Pete
