Welcome to November. Here's some recommended reading to either wrap up your week, or kick off your weekend.
Let's start things off with a blog I published on my own website:
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Entrepreneurs Should Constantly Remind Themselves That 'Nobody Knows Anything' - Here's a good reminder that just about every new business started after the founder was told on more than one occasion that the idea wouldn't work. My dad
told me he wouldn't walk away from benefits and a matching 401K to open "something that probably wont make it," but I pressed forward anyway (I should note that he has been an enthusiastic proponent of our operation since!).
- Make it Epic - Masters of Scale Podcast - I was not a Black Eyed Peas enthusiast prior to listening to this interview with Will.I.Am, but my tune has changed. This was a fascinating look into the mind of an artist and entrepreneur who has mastered the art of identifying opportunity, and then compounding on the value he
extracts.
- I’m a Workaholic, and This is How I’m Changing My Ways - How's this for an alarming statistic shared from a study cited in this article: 22% of U.S. workers reported checking their email in the middle of the night, while 58% check it in bed just after waking up. While I am not guilty of
falling into the former category, I can say that the latter is a bad habit of mine. This was a good read, including some manageable suggested strategic shifts for those of you who are in search of a little more work-life balance.
- How to Work With a Bad Listener - Last week I shared a favorite article of mine on the topic of improving listening
skills. This week I want to touch the a related topic of managing relationships with colleagues who don't currently share your interest in fully engaging in meaningful conversation.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
