Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- These Are the Four Essential Qualities You Need to be an Effective Leader - You may not be a leader within the hierarchy of your organization, but if you're a coach or personal trainer you'll need to possess leadership tendencies in order to capture the attention and
trust of your clients in the gym. The four traits highlighted in this FastCompany article qualify as "must-haves" in order to be the most productive coach in your facility.
- There's a Right Amount of Failing You Need to Do in Order to Succeed - If you had to identify "the right amount of failure," would you have guessed that 15% would be it? The primary link I have shared here is an Inc. Magazine piece
summarizing the findings of a recent study, but you can go real deep down the rabbit hole to learn about the findings here if that's your thing.
- Illusion of Transparency: Your Poker Face is Better Than You Think - You may think that people are burdened by your occasionally terrible body language, but this article contends that very few are actually paying attention. This blog post is important to both strength coaches and gym owners looking to pitch their services. Most people
can't read your mind, and you've got to act accordingly.
- Why Groups Struggle to Solve Problems Together - This was a great read on intuitive problem solving, and it's lack of effectiveness in a group setting. Put some thought into the concept of the "methodical meeting" outlined in this piece, and then take a stab at implementing it in your first staff meeting of the coming week.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
