Happy New Year!
Last week I shared a blog explaining my 2019 of content creation, and the exhaustion associated with churning out a new topic each week. Well, week one of 2020 is just about in the books, and I've enjoyed my first blog-free Thursday since last 2018...my god, did it feel good.
With this in mind, this week I've got nothing but four great pieces of content to either wrap up your week, or kick off your weekend.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- The Science Behind the Best Instagram Bios - Just about every gym in our industry uses Instagram as a means to spread their message and drive brand awareness. Few of them, however, bother to put a whole lot of thought into maximizing the effectiveness of their bios. This blog
post touches on a number of quick and effective measures you can take immediately to improve the way your bio performs on the platform.
- Is This The Beginning Of ‘Amazon’s Apocalypse’? - No, I'm not telling you that Amazon is dead or dying. Instead, I'm sharing this Forbes article with you to illustrate the fact that no business is entirely insulated from disruption. If small-ish
businesses can begin to compete with the likes of Amazon thanks to emerging technologies, your "best gym in town" status is always vulnerable. Similarly, if you're feeling as if the behemoth box gym in your town owns an impenetrable position in the marketplace, you just may be wrong.
- 15 of The Best Slogans and Taglines in Advertising History - I recently finished the book Blue Ocean Strategy (enjoyed it) and was somewhat surprised to see the authors hammer home the importance of each business having a good tagline. This got me to hunting
around a little bit for examples of great ones, where I stumbled upon this fascinating collection. In case you're wondering, CSP's tagline has unofficially been "discover your potential" since 2007.
- Real Mentorship Starts with Company Culture, Not Formal Programs - This HBR article will make you rethink your internship program if you've made a habit of identifying a single staff member to handle the educational process. Getting the entire team
involved is imperative if you want to avoid developing an individualistic learning environment that is not reflective of the model you follow with your full-time employees.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
