Welcome to the weekend. Here are four pieces of content to either wrap up your work week, or kick off your much deserved down time.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance - as always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- There's No Such Thing as 'Quality' Time - I like to think I've done a decent job of positioning myself as a "family-first" working professional, and it has resulted in a great deal of the outreach I receive relating to finding work-life balance. I found myself
nodding in approval with this Ryan Holiday piece based on my experiences in parenting. If you're a gym owner or fitness professional who has resolved to find more time for family in the new year, I encourage you to take this one into consideration while you get strategic about the objective.
- Networking for People Who Hate Networking (podcast) - Like every other industry, networking skills are imperative in the world of fitness. In fact, I'll receive as many as 100 applications for our approaching summer
internship program here at CSP during the coming month for just 12 spots between our two locations. Of the 12 accepted candidates, as many as 6 could end up being coaches who are fast-tracked to the front of the line simply because the right person reached out to me on their behalf. This episode of Adam Grant's WorkLife podcast shares some great ideas for how you can go about framing your future networking requests in an effective way.
- ClassPass Kicks Off 2020 by Becoming a Unicorn - I don't take a whole lot of firm, potentially controversial stances in this newsletter or on my blog. Today, however, I want to go on record as saying that ClassPass is a pain in
the ass for independent gym owners like myself. Sorry, ClassPass fans...I'm just not on board. This being said, I think it is important that we all stay on top of the direction of businesses that influence how we run our own, this one included. Here's a look at what they're up to.
- 3 Times When it’s Better to Work Alone, Rather Than On a Team - I'm a believer that "teamwork makes the dream work," but also know that there's a time and a place for asking your team members to go it alone from a creativity and execution
standpoint. This article shared three concrete examples of situations of this nature.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
