Welcome to the weekend. Here's some interesting material to either wrap up your work week, or kick off your much deserved down time.
Let's get things started by revisiting one of my most popular blog posts from 2019:
- Overcoming the "Best Coach on Staff" Problem - I'd imagine this post resonated with many because there isn't a single gym in the world that is without a "best coach on staff." Assuming you've got a team of two or more coaches, this is
your reality, whether you are willing to admit it or not. Here are some tips to get over that hurdle with your demanding clients.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- The CEO of American Airlines Says Every Leader Faces This Leadership Challenge - This Inc. article highlighted a problem I've run into on more than a few occasions over the years while running CSP. More specifically,
this is a challenge I encounter with young new coaches who are prioritizing pleasing the boss over pleasing the client in a given moment. Special thanks to F4 reader and friend, Kourtney Thomas, for putting this one on my radar this week.
- Why Corona Beer’s Silence is the Best Possible Response to Coronavirus Memes and Discussion - I've recently been asking myself how I'd handle the Corona Virus situation if I were a member of the
marketing team for Corona Beer. There's a challenging decision to make as it relates to participating in open dialogue on the cultural conversation surrounding the brand, and Corona appears to be a taking a deliberately quiet approach as of right now. This will be a fascinating storyline to track during the coming weeks and months.
- Don’t Let Perfection Be the Enemy of Productivity - This HBR article was both informative, and brutally difficult to read for me because of how accurately it pinpointed three of my bad productivity (or lack thereof) habits. Unlike
many posts that point out the mistakes we're making and leaving it there, this one touches on some reasonable and actionable solutions as well. Great read.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
