Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started by sharing a brand new episode of my podcast, Niched:
- Niched Ep. 3 - Demystifying the World of Finance: Sahil Bloom - I'm thrilled to finally be back to publishing episodes of the podcast I launched in early March. This third installment features a conversation with a good friend and longtime CSP client
who has recently managed to go from completely unknown to influencer status in the world of "fin-twit," a space where financial literacy is prioritized on Twitter. Instead of making you feel dumb by dropping intimidating terminology, he goes the opposite route and makes all of these concepts feel more accessible to the average person.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Thinking For Oneself - This is an important read if you're a person who piles up completed business books on the bookshelf, but rarely think strategically about implementation of lessons learned. As the author will tell you, there's a big difference between being given
information and earning wisdom.
- Want More Clients? Focus On Your Personal Brand - I've obviously been focused on my personal brand for a while now (hence the logo at the bottom of this message). My intention for doing so, while partially driven by generating business consulting leads, has also been to extend
my network. The more valuable material I generate, the more I hear from influential business owners, event coordinators, equipment distributors, etc. If your first inclination while reading this is to bemoan the boss who wont allow you to maintain a personal blog or Youtube channel, I suggest you find a new job.
- Adapting Negotiations to a Remote World - As I listened to this episode of the HBR Ideacast, I imagined all of the gym owners who faced the difficult decision of whether or not to renew an expiring lease while in the
midst of a quarantine, and the even bigger challenge of negotiating those agreements in an entirely remote format. This quick podcast does a nice job of delineating the most important differences between the approach to in-person versus virtual negotiation discussions.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
