Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started by sharing a blog post from my own personal archives:
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Pandemic Be Damned: Business Owners Are Still Opening Stores - One of them most common questions I've encountered in recent months is whether or not it is a good idea to pursue opening a gym in the next 6-12 months thanks to Covid-related
uncertainties. I found it especially interesting to learn that these retailers are intentionally "over-indexing on stores that are neighborhood-driven." I say this because, with the exception of a very small handful of destination training facilities that deliver extremely niched services, the average successful gym is best described as "neighborhood-driven."
- Burnout Is About Your Workplace, Not Your People - According to this article, healthcare costs are 50% higher in high-pressure firms. If that isn't enough to compel you to address burnout on your team, how about considering the fact that, according to
the American Psychological Association, burned out employees are 2.6 times as likely to be searching for a new job? Burnout is a big problem, and this article will help you begin thinking about how you can address it in your business.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
