Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started by sharing a blog post from my own personal archives:
- 3 Types of Networks Every Gym Owner Needs - It's been almost a year since I published this one, and I've spend many days since focusing on building out each of the three types of networks featured. Pay special attention to the third one.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Burger King Is Replying to Complaints About McDonald's on Facebook - About a year ago I was assisting a consulting client with exploring the idea of a new gym in a market dominated by a busy OrangeTheory franchise. One of the exercises we worked through was an extensive
competitive research project that went as deep as documenting both the positive and negative comments shared in Yelp reviews for that specific location so as to quickly identify potential holes in that market that could be exploited. At the time, we didn't consider targeting the angry crowd for business development. Maybe we missed an opportunity...
- 5 Key Traits of Modern Leaders - I'm a sucker for a good article on leadership, especially when it includes thoughtfully curated TED Talks to support each point. Good stuff as always from Michael Keeler of
Business for Unicorns and Mark Fisher Fitness fame.
- The Truth About Grit - This article helped me to reframe the pandemic narrative as it relates to my business by forcing me to ask myself one simple question: What if this is happening for my business, as opposed to to my business? With a little bit
of bigger picture thinking, I am able to see that the systemization of my operation is going to be considerably stronger once the dust settles on this stage in our lives.
- Will Amtrak’s New Partnership With Lysol Lure Passengers Back Onboard? - This might seem like an outlandish scheme at first glance, but it's one worth watching, as a positive outcome
in this relationship could be a good thing for fitness. More specifically, if the general public finds comfort in the relationship between a transportation provider and a cleaning solution manufacturer, it stands to reason that a business like Planet Fitness or Equinox could arrange for a similar agreement and enjoy the benefits of increased client foot traffic.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
