Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- The Counterintuitive Way to be More Persuasive - This ten-minute TED Talk will get you thinking about the damage you might be doing by flooding your current and potential clients with a variety of service and pricing options. Give it a listen and you'll soon see that the "dilution effect" is pervasive
in your professional life.
- Do These 5 Emotionally Intelligent Things Within 5 Minutes Of Meeting Someone - Seeing as how we never get a second chance to make a good first impression, we could all probably stand to get a little more polished in our
approach to initial interactions. In fact, having any pre-planned approach at all would probably set most of us apart from others. All five of these habits will be easy for you to build into your first impression tool kit.
- Choose Your Jones Wisely - I routinely run into gym owners who are stressed because their businesses, while technically productive, don't look as busy as the visual they saw from another gym on Instagram. They unintentionally forget that social media is just a series of
precisely curated highlights from our peers, and instead evaluate their "normal" against someone else's (often fabricated) best. Seth Godin succinctly addressed this problem in this great blog post.
- When Should You Collaborate with the Competition? - This concept might seem insane to the average gym owner thanks to the insanely territorial nature of our field, but HBR makes a compelling argument for strategic collaboration for the sake of industry or service
awareness. If you've ever strategized an unsuccessful approach to converting non-consumers, the missing piece may have been competitive collaboration.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
