Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started with a popular blog post from my own personal archives:
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Why Storytelling Is a Skill that Every Entrepreneur Should Practice - We're all on the lookout for tools to assist prospects in making the jump to paying customer status, and fine-tuning the art of storytelling would be a good place to start. My favorite piece of advice from this author, outside of prioritizing
authenticity in the stories, is to have a sense of humor about the way we present our operation through story.
- The Surprising Habits of Original Thinkers (TED Talk) - This lecture by Adam Grant was essentially a condensed version of his great book, Originals. I especially like his take on first-mover advantage. Or, more specifically, his reasoning for why he believes it to be
overrated.
- 3 Counterintuitive Moves for Building a Great Brand - I'm all for the introduction of against-the-grain branding strategy suggestions, so I especially enjoyed this post. The second of the three recommendations will resonate with any business owners who are particularly niched in
their market.
- What to Do When Your Employee Is Totally Checked Out - Before you dive into this one I should note that the best solution to the checked out employee problem is to not allow it to get to that point in the first place. This being said, it happens to the best of us, and this article
hits a couple of great tips for resolving the issue.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
