Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started with a podcast I had the pleasure of being a guest on:
- Cressey Sports Performance, Covid & Looking After Your People (podcast) - I had the pleasure of joining Kyle and Rhys for an episode of their podcast, Pivotal Conversations. These guys are down in Australia helping spread the word about great small business ownership practices for
gym owners and we quickly realized we were on the same page early and often during this discussion.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Want to Get Your Name Out There With Zero Budget? Do What Chipotle Did. - Between access to free publishing resources that scale your message, and articles like this showcasing the creativity of great marketing minds, us gym owners shouldn't feel burdened by undersized advertising budgets. As
Roosevelt said, do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
- Mike Boyle Talks Lessons Learned (podcast) - This podcast episode is going to resonate with you on a number of levels if you've owned a gym for more than, say, a half dozen years. Mike Boyle has obviously been in the gym ownership game for a
while now, and his wisdom shared reflects this fact. Our Covid-related experiences at CSP apparently closely mirror those encountered at MBSC during the same period of time.
- Fixing Zoom Calls: Looking Better and Feeling Better - I'll bet you didn't think the tutorial on cleaning up your Zoom presence would come from Seth Godin, but here we are. This was a surprisingly thorough and informative piece filled with
actionable tips on improving the way you show up for these never-ending online conversations.
- Is Your Team Solving Problems, or Just Identifying Them? - Identifying problems in my operation is the just about the easiest part of my day. Solving them all, on the other hand, isn't always my strong suit. This great HBR article reminded me of
the importance of focusing more on what we CAN do than what we can't when looking motivate the team here at CSP.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
