Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started with a popular blog post from my own personal archives:
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- What Peleton's Treadmill Safety Concerns Could Mean for the Brand's Momentum - This is an interesting storyline to follow at this unique moment in time, as I see the defiant stance Peloton is taking relating to this CDC
recommendation as being similar to a gym owner publicly declaring that they are going to defy government-mandated shutdowns and remain open. There can be damaging implications to the brand if you choose to hold your ground, and Peloton could very well become the model of what not to do if they continue to see their stock price plummet.
- Know Your Numbers: A Non-Intimidating Overview of Key Performance Indicators - It's very easy to tell a fellow business owner "you've got to stay on top of your numbers." But what's the optimal answer
when the response to that statement is "where do I start?" Mark Fisher knocked that question out of the park with this detailed explanation of how to attack tracking key performance indicators.
- Angela Duckworth: Grit and Human Behavior (podcast) - Duckworth's NYT Best Seller, Grit, was among my favorites in recent years. This interview she did with Shane Parrish from The Knowledge Project addressed a number of concepts from the book, and was especially interesting when they got
to the topics of processing constructive criticism and interpreting the recommendation that one "follow their passion."
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
- Pete
